Look, breakups are never easy, but this story takes avoiding confrontation to a whole new level.
A 23-year-old woman from Britain got the shock of her life when her American fiancé decided to pull off the most outrageous ghosting attempt in dating history – by literally pretending to be a ghost.
Their Love Story Started Like A Rom-Com

Alex Lanchester was living her best study abroad life at the University of Connecticut when she met Tucker Blandford at the campus cinema.
Their romance was straight out of a movie: Sunday pancake dates, monthly fancy dinners to celebrate their anniversary, and Tucker showering her with vintage jewelry. As Alex puts it, “Tucker was such a gentleman… I’d never been in love like that before.”
When Long Distance Threatened, They Chose Marriage Instead

The thought of returning to Britain was breaking Alex’s heart, but Tucker had a solution that seemed perfect at the time – he proposed.
They started planning their dream wedding for August 15, 2014, set to take place right where they first met.
Alex went all out, buying a handmade dress from eBay and spending $700 on photographers, invitations, and bridesmaids’ dresses.
She even paid for Tucker’s flights to Britain to help with the planning.

Just one week before Tucker was supposed to land in Britain, Alex received the most bizarre phone call of her life.
Someone claiming to be Tucker’s father informed her that Tucker had been “deeply depressed” and had thrown himself in front of a car.

Devastated, Alex did what any grieving fiancée would do – she called Tucker’s parents to offer condolences.

Tucker’s parents had no idea what Alex was talking about.
Not only was their son very much alive, but he had told them that he and Alex had broken up when she left America. Talk about awkward family dinner conversations.
The Truth Comes Out
When confronted, Tucker – who lives in a $800.000 four-bedroom house and juggles three jobs – admitted to the whole charade.

“I’m a terrible, awful person,” he confessed. “I know I shouldn’t have told her I was dead, but I didn’t know what else to do.”
He claimed the relationship was moving too fast and the long-distance aspect was challenging. Because apparently faking your own death is easier than having an honest conversation?

Alex, showing incredible resilience, decided to spend what would have been her wedding day making new memories instead.
“He has shattered my trust,” she said, “but I’m glad to be rid of him.”
And honestly, who can blame her? When your fiancé’s breakup strategy involves pretending to be his own deceased self’s father, it’s probably best to count your blessings and move on.
