Abuja herbalist hospitalised after shooting self while testing ‘bulletproof’ charm

Herbalist Ismail Usman has suffered a life-threatening injury after testing a homemade ‘bulletproof’ charm.

The event took place on November 23 in Kuchibuyi village, located in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja.

Usman had armed himself with a locally made gun following the application of his charm, then shot himself in the stomach.

Sadly, the charm did not work, resulting in him being critically injured.

On Saturday, the FCT police command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, verified the incident in a statement, noting that the police were alerted through a distress call from a resident.

Adeh explained that officers from Byazhin Division quickly responded to the scene and immediately transported Usman to Kubwa General Hospital. Due to the critical nature of his injuries, he was subsequently moved to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, where medical staff are working diligently to preserve his life.

She stated, “A distress call from Shandam Michael informed us of a startling incident where Ismail Usman, a herbalist known for his unorthodox practices, shot himself in the stomach with a shotgun in an attempt to test a self-made ‘bulletproof’ charm. The charm failed to provide protection, leading to severe injuries. Our officers from Byazhin Division were prompt in their response, finding Usman in grave condition. He was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital initially and then transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for advanced treatment.

“Following the incident, police searched Usman’s residence, where they discovered the homemade firearm and various charms associated with his experiment.”

Adeh further announced that Usman would be charged with unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide, offenses under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.

She concluded, “Investigations continue, and Usman is set to face legal proceedings for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide as per Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.”
