A woman who died during her wedding rituals was replaced with her sister and ended up marrying the groom instead, according to a report.
News 18, which is an Indian Media television channel owned by Network 18, reported on Saturday that the woman died in front of the Bhagwaneshwar Mahadev Temple in Bhavnagar, India.
News 18 said the bride’s name was Hetal and was “the daughter of a man identified as Jinabhai Rathore. She “was in the process of marrying Vishal, the son of Ranabhai Butabhai Algotar.”
Hetal reportedly said she felt dizzy before fainting. Then, she died.
“The doctors told her she had died of a heart attack after she was rushed to a hospital nearby,” according to the media outlet. “Even as the family mourned the death of Hetal, relatives proposed an alternative plan to ensure the wedding celebrations continued.”
The family, according to News 18, then decided to marry Hetal’s younger sister instead.
“Hetal’s body was reportedly kept in cold storage until the ceremony was over,” the report noted. “Corporator of Bhavnagar city and leader of Maldhari Samaj, Laxmanbhai Rathore described the incident as very sad. He said even though the family was shocked by the death of their daughter, members of society convinced them to set an example and not send the bridegroom and his family empty-handed.”
