On October 24th, the Colorado Supreme Court will consider a groundbreaking case arguing for the liberty rights of elephants.
This hearing marks a historic moment not only for our clients, Jambo, Kimba, Lucky, LouLou, and Missy, who are currently confined at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, but also for all elephants worldwide who suffer due to a lack of legal recognition.
The Colorado Supreme Court judges will soon have the chance to uphold justice as required by law and extend it to elephants. Following the New York Court of Appeals’ precedent in Happy’s case, this court will be the second state high court in the U.S. to hear arguments in favor of nonhuman animal rights.
Regardless of the outcome, this hearing itself is a significant milestone, reflecting the growing recognition of the need for justice for elephants. This progress is largely due to the passion, persistence, and bravery of our supporters who stand with us in demanding change. We extend our gratitude to you.
In the campaign for legal rights for elephants, sometimes one individual can make a transformative difference. One elephant’s story can inspire change; one dedicated supporter can lead a community movement; one judge can challenge the existing norms; one elected official can forge a new path. This hearing holds the potential for substantial impact, and we are eager to prepare and advocate for our clients’ freedom, with your support.
The hearing is open to the public and will occur at the University of Colorado Law School in Boulder, under the Courts in the Community program, providing students with an educational opportunity to witness court proceedings firsthand.
