A 25-year-old man in Ahmedabad, India, died from multiple organ failure after using industrial-grade epoxy adhesive as an improvised contraceptive method, local police reported.
Salman Mirza was found unconscious near an apartment complex on June 23 following a hotel stay with his fiancée in the Juhapura neighborhood.
According to police officials, the couple had used the industrial adhesive as a substitute for conventional contraception when they discovered they had no other protection available.
“Since they did not have any protection, they decided to apply the adhesive on his private parts to ensure that she does not get pregnant,” a senior Ahmedabad city police officer told the Times of India.

The officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the case, also revealed concerning details about substance abuse involved in the incident.
Investigators disclosed that both Mirza and his fiancée had a history of substance abuse. The couple reportedly used the adhesive mixed with whitener for inhalation purposes, a dangerous practice known to cause severe health risks.
This combination of substances likely contributed to their impaired decision-making on the night of the incident.
The tragedy unfolded when Mirza’s friend, Firoz Shaik, discovered him unconscious in shrubs near a local apartment complex.
Shaik initially brought Mirza home, but as his condition rapidly deteriorated, he was rushed to Sola Civil Hospital. Despite medical intervention, hospital staff could not prevent multiple organ failure, which ultimately led to his death.
Family members have raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding Mirza’s death, calling for a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
Deputy Police Commissioner Premsukh Delu addressed these concerns in a statement to local media:
“The viscera samples of the deceased have been sent for forensic examination. We are waiting for the report to arrive.”
The police department has initiated a full investigation to determine the exact sequence of events leading to Mirza’s death.
Social workers in Ahmedabad have pointed out that this case underscores the devastating intersection of substance abuse and lack of proper sexual health knowledge.
The incident has also prompted calls from community leaders for enhanced drug prevention programs and better accessibility to family planning resources, particularly in underserved areas of the city.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the source of the industrial adhesive and the circumstances that led to its possession by the couple.
