Nearly $1 Million in Damage: How One Woman’s Jealousy Changed Everything

ADELAIDE, Australia — An Australian woman who allegedly set her husband’s private parts on fire in a jealous rage has been charged with murder after he succumbed to his injuries.

Rajini Narayan, 44, appeared in Adelaide magistrates court facing upgraded charges following the death of her husband, Satish Narayan, 47.

Prosecutors say she confessed to neighbors that she set her husband on fire after witnessing him hug another woman.

According to prosecutor Lucy Boord, Narayan admitted to being a “jealous wife” but claimed she never intended to kill her husband.

“I just wanted to burn his penis so it belongs to me and no one else … I didn’t mean this to happen,” Boord quoted Narayan as saying.

The incident occurred when Narayan allegedly doused her sleeping husband’s genitals with an alcohol-based solvent and ignited them.

In the ensuing chaos, Mr. Narayan jumped from the bed, accidentally knocking over the bottle of alcohol.

This caused the fire to spread, resulting in approximately $964,000 in damage to their townhouse and an adjacent property.

Initially, Narayan was charged with endangering life and arson. However, the charges were upgraded to murder after Mr. Narayan died from his injuries.

The defendant now faces multiple charges, including murder, arson, and three counts of endangering life, as the couple’s three children were present in the home during the incident.

Narayan has been remanded in custody and ordered to undergo psychological assessment.
